Greg Abbott, Jasmine Crockett, Ken Paxton among lawmakers reacting to Dallas PD shooting

Lawmakers and public officials across Dallas-Fort Worth and Texas issued swift reactions Friday morning to the shooting in Oak Cliff that left one officer dead and two injured late Thursday night.
Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson issued a statement about the shooting Friday morning on his X account.
“Dallas has lost a hero. We all grieve with the officer’s family today, and we pray for a full and swift recovery for the two officers who were wounded,” the statement reads.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott was another public official to comment online on the shooting.
“Texas grieves with the family & loved ones of the Dallas police officer killed in the line of duty last night. Cecilia & I pray for the swift recovery of the 2 officers who were injured protecting their fellow Texans. Our hearts are with @DallasPD & the entire Dallas community,” his Friday morning post reads.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton reacted with a post on Facebook.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the brave fallen Dallas police officer who lost his life last night,” he wrote.
U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz posted on X reacting to the shooting and offering prayers to the officers involved and their loved ones.
“Heidi and I are heartbroken by the police shooting in Dallas,” he added.

U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett, a Dallas Democrat who represents the congressional district where the shooting took place, also reacted on X.
“Heartbroken for the family and friends of the officer lost last night in Dallas. I’m praying for the speedy recovery of the injured officers. This epidemic of gun violence must end,” she wrote.

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee posted about the shooting on Facebook.
“I hope you will join me in praying for the officers and their families, and remembering and appreciating the police for the dangers they face in keeping the rest of us safe,” he wrote.
U.S. Rep. Colin Allred, the Democratic Party candidate for the U.S. Senate, reacted to the shooting on Facebook.
“The sacrifice of these brave officers is a debt we can never repay,” he said.
Various state lawmakers, including Sen. Tan Parker, R-Flower Mound; Rep. Ana-Maria Ramos, D-Richardson; Rep. Jeff Leach, R-Plano; and Rep. Mihaela Plesa, D-Dallas, were among those offering support online in the aftermath of the shooting.

Local officials also reacted to the shooting on Friday morning.
From the parking lot of For Oak Cliff, council member Carolyn King Arnold told The Dallas Morning News she was “devastated” by the news of the shooting.
”Really no words can describe an officer being murdered like this,” she said. “It just leaves you speechless.”
Several other City Council members, including Gay Donnell Willis, Chad West and Paula Blackmon, also reacted to the news Friday morning. Zarin Gracey, who represents the district where the shooting took place, issued a statement to The Dallas Morning News grieving the officer’s death and offering support to the two officers still in the hospital.
“Every family affected by this tragedy will be forever changed, and it is in moments like these that we must come together as a community to offer our compassion, support, and strength,” he added.
Dallas Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Adam Bazaldua reacted with a post of X early Friday morning.

Kimberly Bizor Tolbert, Dallas’ interim city manager, issued a statement expressing her condolences for the late police officer and offering prayers for the two wounded officers.
“The City of Dallas is a family, and as we mourn the loss of one of our own, I ask that you continue to support and lift up the entire Dallas Police Department in prayer over the next several days and weeks,” she added in the statement.
