Straight heating elements cost less to make so they sell for less.  But internal space constraints often require fold-back configuration heaters.  If you are a person who once per year pulls your heating element and leaves it in a mild acid dip (even vinegar will do if you don't have Lime-A-Way, CLR or one of the other more aggressive consumer-grade de-limers), shorter fold back models are much easier to acid dip since they are much shorter.  And why would you de-lime your water heater's heating element?  Removing lime buildup is removing thermal insulation between the heating element and water to be heated.  Not only does this make water heating occur faster, but the peak temperature of the heating element is lower so it lasts longer.  Heating elements have service lives which are not infinitely long, just as with filament type light bulbs and clothes dryer electric heating elements.   Running any of these hotter than necessary shortens their service lives.
Requiring 3800 watts to heat water this quickly requires 240 volts since 120 volt domestic wiring doesn't comply with code if the breaker is that large.  The screw-in thread size is 1-3/8 inch standard right-hand threads.  Made in the USA, used by professional plumbers which does not describe the low priced oriental sourced heaters.  Is this a place to skimp?  240 volts in your water supply?
