SELLING UNUSUAL AND RARE ITEMS ON EBAY FOR 22 YEARS-QUALITY, NOT QUANTITY! -
A popular James Whitcomb Riley poetry book, Knee Deep In June And Other Poems, published in 1912, and an unusual wood souvenir piece. Book is in nice condition throughout.
Wood piece is 5 3/4 in. long & a little over 2 1/2 in. wide, about 1/2 in. thick. It is deeply carved & you can tell it was carved by hand. We only know that these items were always kept together, and the family story where they came from, is that the wood piece was purchased at a little park in Indianapolis, Indiana. Apparently, this park was often frequented by Riley and it became a known and popular gathering place for people, at some time. Apparently, snacks & other items were sometimes sold there. It was said that the initials on the wood piece were those of the carver. It is interesting that this particular Riley book was published in 1912 & also has many passages relating to orchards, meadows, and woods, and celebrating the time of summer.
