U.S.S. Yorktown Wood Relic
An actual piece of the historic flight deck!
The U.S.S. Yorktown (CV-10) was commissioned at Newport News, VA in 1943. She served valiantly in many combat operations in the Pacific theater during WW II. During the Cold War and the Vietnam War she served many successful operations in the Far East.
In 1968 the U.S.S. Yorktown served as the recovery ship for the crew of Apollo 8, the first manned mission to the moon. The aircraft carrier was also featured in the movie “Tora, Tora, Tora”. She earned a total of 16 Naval battle stars for combat before she was retired in 1970. The U.S.S. Yorktown now proudly resides at Patriots Point, S.C.
This piece of wood is part of the historic flight deck of the U.S.S. Yorktown.
It was cut from a larger piece obtained directly from the Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum.
Now you have an opportunity to own an original relic from one of the most famous Aircraft Carriers in the world!
The actual piece of wood is roughly ¾ inch long and is mounted on a 5x7 inch descriptive COA display that can be easily framed. Each piece of wood will vary slightly depending on how it was cut from the original larger piece. The display is protected by a stiff plastic protector. The display’s front image is an early aerial view of the U.S.S. Yorktown with the wood mounted underneath. The back has a brief history of the ship, showing several early images and an image of the original wood block.
This would look great matted and framed and would make a very special gift for anyone who served on the ship!
