U.S.S. New Jersey
BB-62
Wood Relic
An actual piece of the historic flight deck!
The U.S.S. New Jersey (BB-62) was launched at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard in Dec. 1942. She served valiantly in many combat operations in the Pacific theater during WWII, serving at different times as flagship for the Fifth and the Third Fleets. During the Korean War she saw much activity as flagship for the Seventh Fleet. The years 1968-69 saw the U.S. New Jersey serving a 3
rd
career gallantly during the war in Vietnam. In the 1980s she protected American Marines and interests in the Lebanon conflict before finally being decommissioned in 1991.
In her long illustrious service she earned a total of 19 Naval Battle and Campaign stars….the most decorated battleship and surviving warship in U.S. history!
The U.S.S. New Jersey now proudly resides as a museum ship at Camden, NJ.
This piece of teak wood is part of the historic flight deck of the U.S.S. New Jersey. It was cut from a larger piece obtained during a normal overhaul.
Now you have an opportunity to own an original relic from the most decorated Battleship in U.S. history!
The actual piece of wood is roughly 1 inch long and is mounted on a 5x7 inch descriptive COA display that can be easily framed. Each piece of wood will vary slightly depending on how it was cut from the original larger piece. The display is protected by a stiff plastic protector. The displays front image is an early aerial view of the U.S.S. New Jersey with the wood mounted on the side. The back has a brief history of the ship, showing several early images and an image of the original wood block.
This would look great matted and framed and would make a very special gift for anyone who served on the ship!
International shipping is based on location.
