U.S.S. MISSOURI Wood Relic Piece of Historic Deck Navy UNIQUE GIFT WW IIU.S.S. Missouri Wood Relic
An actual piece of the historic teak deck!
The U.S.S. Missouri (BB-63), nicknamed the “Mighty Mo” was commissioned in June 1944. She was an
Iowa
-class battleship and the last U.S. battleship ever built. The U.S.S. Missouri is 887 feet in length and displaced 45,000 tons. In WWII she served in the Pacific Theater and participated valiantly in the invasions of Iwo Jima and Okinawa, as well as bombing the Japanese mainland. One of her proudest and most historic moments was hosting the Japanese surrender ceremony on Sept. 2, 1945, which ended WWII.
In 1950 the Mighty Mo was sent to serve in the Korean War. After being decommissioned in 1955 she served in the Pacific Reserve Fleet in Bremerton, WA. In 1984 she was modernized and reactivated and later served an important role in the 1991 Gulf War. In 1998, after earning 11 battle stars, the U.S.S. Missouri was decommissioned once again and was sent to Pearl Harbor to serve its proud new role as a museum ship, near the U.S.S. Arizona Memorial.
While serving as a memorial, the Mighty Mo has undergone renovations to keep her in shipshape, including replacing the original teak deck. The piece of wood attached to this display is part of the deck from this historic battleship. I obtained the original wood a while ago from the U.S.S. Missouri Memorial Association.
Now you have an opportunity to own an original relic from one of the most famous Battleships in WW II and the last U.S. battleship ever built !
The actual piece of teak wood is mounted on a 5 x 7 inch descriptive COA display that can be easily framed. Each piece of wood will vary slightly depending on how it was cut from the original larger piece. The display is protected by a stiff plastic protector. The display’s front image is an early view of the U.S.S. Missouri with the wood mounted above. The back has a brief history of the ship, showing several early images.
This would look great matted and framed and would make a very special gift for anyone interested in WWII history or who served on the ship!
International shipping is based on location.
