The Old North Church, officially known as Christ Church, is the oldest and most famous church in Boston. Built in 1723, the church entered history books as the location of the “One if by land, Two if by sea” lantern signal instructed by Paul Revere alerting the Colonists that the British Army was crossing the Charles River. It happened on April 18, 1775 and the event marked the beginning of the Revolutionary War and the eventual freedom of the Colonies.
In the Fall of 1927, some of the original roof of the church was reconstructed and pieces of the roof removed and replaced. This small piece of wood was originally sold by Christ Church in the 1940’s under the authorization of Boston historian Robert M. Winn from Wollaston, Mass. At the time, the church Vicar was Rev. Charles Russell Peck.

The actual piece of wood is roughly 3/8
inch long and is mounted on a 5 x 7 inch descriptive COA display that can be easily framed. The display is protected by a stiff plastic protector. The display’s front image is the earliest known, ca. 1860 view of the church with the wood mounted above. The back card has a brief history of the Old North Church and an image of the original piece of wood with its documentation. I will include my business card with each display.
