London Tower Bridge Wood Relic * Historic Rare Authentic
Own a Real Authentic Piece of the Tower Bridge!
The Tower Bridge, over the River Thames, is one of London’s most iconic landmarks. It was designed as a bascule bridge, 244m in length, with 2 towers and an elevated walkway. The bridge was an engineering feat and officially opened to the public on June 30, 1894, after 8 years of construction. Sir John Wolfe-Barry was the chief engineer and was responsible for designing the Victorian gothic style of the towers.
To prepare for the bridge’s Centenary celebration in 1994, the Tower Bridge
exhibit was opened and the walkway, which had been closed since 1910, was refurbished and re-opened. The Corporation of London, the bridge’s owner, used a section of the original 21cm wooden teak handrail and made a beautiful limited edition historic display.
This piece of wood is taken from the Limited Edition # 080 handrail display.
Now you have an opportunity to own a small original piece of one of the most iconic bridges in the world. The wood is teak wood, used in the original construction and designed to last for centuries.
The actual piece of wood is about 20mm long and is mounted on a 5x7 descriptive COA display that can be easily framed. Each piece varies slightly but is at least that size. The display is protected by a stiff plastic protector. The photo on the display card is an early one taken of the Tower Bridge ca. 1900.
This would look great matted and framed and would make a very unique gift!
