    The Optical Society of America was founded in 1916 with a group of 30 optical scientists and technicians.  The mission of the Optical Society is to promote the generation, dissemination, application, and archiving of knowledge in optics and photonics. The purposes of the Society are scientific, technical, and educational.  The society has grown to membership in 100 countries, 17,000 members, and over 230 corporate members.
    Shortly after its founding the Optical Society of America began publishing the
    Journal of the Optical Society of America
    a collection of peer-reviewed papers all about optics and the use of optics.  It is the best resource of knowledge available on optics
